Disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) contains numerous requirements for handling electrical and electronic devices. The most important ones are summarized here.

1. Separate Collection of Waste Equipment
Electrical and electronic devices that have become waste are referred to as waste equipment. Owners of waste equipment must ensure these are collected separately from unsorted municipal waste. Waste equipment should not be disposed of with household waste but should be taken to special collection and return systems.

2. Batteries and Accumulators
Owners of waste equipment must generally remove used batteries and accumulators, which are not enclosed by the waste equipment, before handing them over to a collection point. This does not apply if the waste equipment is delivered to public waste management authorities, where it is separated from other waste equipment for reuse preparation.

3. Options for Returning Waste Equipment
Owners of waste equipment from private households can return these to the collection points of public waste management authorities or to return points set up by manufacturers or distributors under the ElektroG. An online directory of collection and return points can be found here: https://www.ear-system.de/ear-verzeichnis/sammel-und-ruecknahmestellen.jsf

4. Data Protection Notice
Waste equipment often contains sensitive personal data. This is particularly true for information and telecommunication devices such as computers and smartphones. Please note that it is the responsibility of each end user to delete the data on devices to be disposed of.

5. Meaning of the "Crossed-out Wheeled Bin" Symbol
The symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin, regularly depicted on electrical and electronic devices, indicates that the device must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste at the end of its life cycle.

6. Manufacturer Registration Number
As a manufacturer under the ElektroG, we are registered with the responsible foundation for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Register (Nordostpark 72, 90411 N├╝rnberg) under the following registration number: DE 59998575
